Wana Sambo was born in the late 80’s when the world of fashion and music was at its all time high. Leather, lace, jeans, headbands, legwarmers, miniskirts (especially the ra-ra skirts), tracksuits, jog pants, leggings, etc. In Music. . . Madonna, The Sex Pistols and Guns & Roses, etc…

Born into so much drama in the world definitely influenced her designs. From an early age, she experienced a fashion transformation. She went from boyish dressings to girlish and kept swinging both ways until she found a balance between both genres of fashion. Born in Nigeria, she set up the Wana Sambo Clothing Company in her teenage years in the university where she sought a particular style which wasn’t sold and decided to create such brand that she and her friends, the fashion goons, could relate to. That was the major influence behind the birth of the Wana Sambo brand.

Being a graduate (magna cum laude) of International Relations and Diplomacy at the prestigious numero uno private university in Nigeria, Igbinedion University, Edo state, was a stepping-stone to her quest in the Design world. She has worked in Interior Designing and the Entertainment & Music Sector. Her first runway event was a charity event/auction for an Orphanage called “Haven for the Nigerian child”.

“My inspiration is drawn from the most inexplicable sources. The other day, I was taking a walk around my house, I saw a pond which had a flower, the water lily/pond lily, its white and pinkish colors inspired a collection which started through a piece. I dream up designs in my sleep. Weird, but I’m thankful for such gift.” – Wana Sambo
